A New Way To Edit

Today, I discovered something awesome on my Kindle Touch–Text to speech.

I had uploaded a current copy of my ms, turned on text-to-speech and read along with the feminine computer voice. What makes this an interesting way to edit, is HEARING your story. I’m sure you’ve heard before about reading your story out loud, but having someone else read it is much better.

The other great aspect of text-to-speech–you can hear your made up words. My husband and our friends have this ongoing argument about how the name Jarlaxle is pronounced ( a character from R.A. Salvatore’s novels). Well, you better believe I’m going to play my text-to-speech and settle the debate.

If you have an e-reader that has text-to-speech, I highly recommend listening to your novel. Keep a note pad by your side, take notes, sit back and enjoy hearing those marvelous words being played.

***Kindle has a document upload program (Send to Kindle) I’m not sure about the NOOK, but look into it***

  1. I've never heard text-to-speech book apps. Wouldn't they be monotone or put emphases in the wrong places? Well, it sure is an interesting idea. 🙂

  2. Holy moly! What a magnificent idea… I just got a Kindle for Christmas… Think you've just sealed my plans for the rest of the night!

    (Also, I vote Jar-LAX-ul. ;))

  3. Okay, so I have a Kindle Fire HD, and I've been trying all day to figure out how to get it to read my novels to me. I've found the "Text to Speech" button in the novels I've downloaded, but I can't find it with my uploaded documents. What format do you put them in? Thank you!
