Motherhood and Gaming

Since my little munchkin was born, I haven’t had to give up gaming.  Of course there are no more late night raidings, but that’s okay with me.  I have faith that my son will follow in our footsteps, and in a few years my Friday nights will consist of me getting pwned by a five year old.

There is one drawback…

Last night I decided to hook up my PS2, and finish Final Fantasy VIII (I know so old).  Only problem was, no PS2 controller.  I searched the toy box, under the couch, everywhere for this thing! My son watched me rant for about 15 minutes, until it hit me.  I lost it.

My beautiful boy wants to be like mommy & daddy, which means he is constantly grabbing the PS3 controller.  I, in an effort to distract my 14 month old son, gave him the PS2 wired controller.  He loves controllers, and wires even more.  I never thought “bad idea, what if he loses it?” After all these days I rarely touch my PS2.

Now I’ll never be able to finish all of the games, that I swore I had to have.  I still have PSOne games that I intend to one day beat, including Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure.

What’s the lesson here?  If your child is being a nag, do NOT give them any gaming accessories because they will be confiscated into never never land.  Instead, play with the kid and wait till he takes a nap… much safer that way.

  1. I don't have kids, but my cats occassionally decide to steal my wireless XBOX and PS3 controllers when I'm not looking.

Replacement PSX controllers aren't that hard to find, though, and you should be able to get a new one and finish all those games. Final Fantasy VIII is definitely worth the few bucks it takes to replace the controller, in my opinion.

  2. really? I watched an amv on FFVIII and I forgot how awesome the game is. I don't know about you but when they were up in the spaceship hurling to the earth, professing all types of mushy stuff…I was a crying my eyes out.
