Book Trailers

I’ve been watching a lot of book trailers, lately, trying to figure out what makes a good one.

So far, I know what I don’t like.

Live action.

Even the big publisher ones remind me of a B rated movie or worse–LARP (live action roleplaying—not knocking it, but it is pretty funny).

The other day I was on yalitchat and came across a book trailer for FADE by Kailin Gow. I thought it was well done and went onto Amazon to search her out.

And then I found this.

It has everything: emotional tension, awesome music, captivating imagery, all tied into a flowing hooky blurb.

As far as book trailers go, this is a prime example of how to make one. It’s also the first time a book trailer has ever made me want to read the book.

  1. Yeah, some book trailers aren't very good. Have you seen the ones for the Mara Dyer books by Michelle Hodkin? Those are pretty quality as well, like this one here.
